Maui Journal Days 3 and 4

Day 3.

We got up early and went to the local church. It was nice and relaxed and I was surprised that almost 1/4 of the people in attendance were visiting. Our side of the family considers Sundays on vacation another weekend day but it was nice to go in and get some new scenery. The people were nice and I love how everybody opens with "Aloha" with the congrigation replying with the same. I enjoy it much more than the blank stares you get when you go up and say "hello brothers and sisters" back home. All in all it was nice except for the first 20 or so minutes when the A/C was still kicking on in the chapel. :P

After church we all came back and enjoyed some Pizza. We all hung out and relaxed the day away. We had a good family home evening later that night and Byron gave a good lesson on family togetherness. He suggested that we all do a bi-yearly-web-get-togther were we all teleconference and chat with each other. We ended with some home movies and I was off to bed.

Day 4

We all got up at 5:30am. Not really an issue when you are so exhausted at 9pm (1am Utah time) that you fall over in your bed. We met up with the boat crew and unloaded our gear onto the boat. We made a b-line right for Molokini crater. I could hardly wait and I knew it was going to be an experience of a lifetime. Once we got to the crater we put our gear on and I was amazed at how blue the water was. The fish migrated to the boat "chumming" (waiting for food) and I was surprised at how large the fish were. Imagine football width and a few feet long. Anyways we jumped in and started to decend. The first thing I noticed was that it was crystal clear all the way to the bottom. Even though it was well over 60 feet deep, it felt like you could just reach out and touch the reef from the surface. Once I got to the bottom, my breath was taken away by the views. Huge fish (who didn't really care that we were there), reef and all kinds of sea life were right there on display. Imagine seeing a giant aquarium where the fish come to the glass inches from your face.. then take away the glass.. thats exactly how it felt. We did a couple dives there and headed back in. As weird as it sounds, one of the best parts of the trip was at the dock. If you hold up a fish cracker between your fingers over your head, these cute small birds would fly down, land on your hand and grab the cracker. Its so new to be "part of the" sea life, instead of just near and around it. I really cant express how amazing the trip today was. I will never forget it.

We have some GREAT pictures that just need to be developed. I will post them up as soon as we get them.

Once we got back we all relaxed and enjoyed our new sunburns. Karianne and I took a much needed nap and woke up for some more beach time and dinner (Cafe Rio rip off burritoes).
